CADDO MILLS, TEXAS.

Caddo Mills is at the intersection of State Highway 66 and Farm Road 36, eight miles southwest of Greenville in southwestern Hunt County.

HISTORY
In the early days, Caddo Indians lived and camped on the banks of nearby Caddo Creek. The first arrived in the late 1850s.

By the 1870's, I. T. Johnson and Henry King built a gristmill a mile west of the presentday town. Shortly thereafter, a store opened and the little community grew, and everyone began referring to the little town as "Caddo Mills" after the early Indian inhabitants, and the gristmill.

Then, it really took off, when in 1879, a U.S. Post Office opened. By the early 1880s over 100 hardy town-folk lived there. There were three churches, a school, and at least a dozen businesses. In 1886 the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad arrived. As a depot of the Katy, Caddo Mills quickly grew over the next 30 years or so. By 1892 the number of businesses doubled and the population increased to 500. In 1897 the Caddo Mills Banner began weekly publication. The State National Bank opened in 1905. The town's population reached 700 just prior to World War I, then fell to 600 in the 1920s.

By the early 1940s Caddo Mills had incorporated; the population was reported as 390 and the number of businesses as twenty. The population reached 680 by 1964 and 1,302 by 1988. In 1990 it was 1,068, and in 2000 it was 1,149.

TODAY
This could be the history of any of 100's of small Texas towns, but it really doesn't capture the flavor of Caddo Mills, Texas.

You just have to visit to understand what an interesting little community it is. With GREAT school districts (Both Caddo Mills and Bland ISD), very close proximity to a couple of world-class fishing lakes (especially Lake Tawakoni), and tons of interesting outdoors and recreational activities.

And if you get bored - it's just a hop, skip, and a jump to either Louisiana or Oklahoma, and the world-class entertainment you'll find there (not to mention the great casinos).

All in all, Caddo Mills, Texas is a great place to live - and a great place to grow a family!
